STONE GODS RISE FROM THE ASHES OF THE DARKNESS

Former The Darkness guitarist Dan Hawkins has revealed to Kerrang! that after the departure of his frontman brother Justin, the band’s remaining memberswill continue to work together under a new name.

Known as Stone Gods, the band sees Hawkins stepping up to the role of lead guitarist alongside drummer Ed Graham, and bassist Richie Edwards, who is now the groups vocalist/rhythmn guitarist, New recruit Toby Macfarlaine will handle bass duties.

“We’re really excited to be cracking on with Stone Gods!” Hawkins enthuses. “People will probably beexpecting us to sound like The Darkness, but that’s not the case at all. The Darkness was a classic rock band, but this is more of a heavy metal band. The riffs are a lot harder for a start. You can definately bang your head to it!

We came up with around two and a half thouand names for the band.” he adds. “There’s a site on the internet called the Band Name Generator that we had a quick look at. It’s quite interesting.I think one of the suggestions was Massive Shit! Maybe with all those leftove names we should start something similar!”

Hawkins has also revealed that the band’s debut offering will be an EP entitled Burn The Witch, set for release in early 2008.

“We will be releasing an EP before the album comes out,” he explains. “We’ve got dozens of song to pick from, so not all the songs on the EP will make the album.”

Hawkins promises that the quartet’s UK tour in January will be an experience not to be missed.

“I’ll be doing plenty of headbanging seeing as that’s how I keep my timing, and there won;t be too many theatrics going on!” he explains. “Everybody in the band is really into what we’re doing, so it should be a lot of fun. We’ll definately put on a show!”
